Tranquil Turtle

Last lunch in Paradise before we head home.

The Crossing

We just have a couple of more days to enjoy the Bahamas. It looks like we have a decent weather window to cross the Gulfstream on Monday, so our plan is to cross to Ft. Pierce then. We have good internet connectivity here in Green Turtle Cay, but it will be sketchy after we leave here. We'll post when we can...

Dave and Dar

Tunes tonight with Dave and Dar! So fun to travel with the band.

Chillin at the Marina

We have a couple of days of 20 knot winds, so we decided to stay in a slip in the protected harbor of Green Turtle Cay.

Miss Emily’s

We left a customized dollar bill at Miss Emily's, home of the first
Goombay Smash cocktail. And, yes, we just had to try one.

Goodnight, Great Guana Cay

Farewell Hopetown

Lunch at Nippers

We brought some friends from Hopetown with us to Nippers. We had a nice lunch and they caught the ferry back. We will continue north to get in position to make our crossing back to the US sometime around Sunday. We're paying close attention to the weather and Gulfstream conditions as we get closer to "crossing day".

Fuel

This morning we took on fuel and we were lucky, because the fuel tanker was on the way and they wanted us to clear out before it's arrival. We got the last fuel of the day. As we came out of the harbor in the narrow channel, we passed the tanker, and it's a big one! It takes several hours to transfer fuel to the marina tanks.

Kalik

Spending time with Mr. Kalik this afternoon listening to music for a charity event to raise money for the Fire Department. It's a beautiful day!

Rainbow

We say it's not all rainbows and sunsets, but sometimes it is.

Ice Cream

We treated ourselves to some cold rolled ice cream yesterday. They spread the milk mixture out on a cold plate and make the ice cream on the spot. Then they scrape it off with a spatula into rolls, ready to serve. This one is Chocolate Chip.

Mission Accomplished

In the end, we managed to fill our water tanks.

Sh*t Happens

So, I'll start by saying I'm just fine now. This morning began with a short trip to a marina down the island to get water for the boat. In the process of running the hose to the spigot, I slipped on the dock, and did a faceplant into the dock. Fortunately, I didn't fall into the water, or this might have been a bigger incident.

A trip to the clinic for some cleanup, some bandages, a Tetanus shot, and some antibiotics have put me back on track. The folks at the marina did a good job of looking after me and transporting us to the clinic. And, then, kind strangers gave us a lift back to the boat.

All is well now, so no worries.

Rain Today

We had rain starting yesterday, and some momentary hail too. It's expected to continue as patchy rain for the rest of today, clearing tomorrow. We have had very little rain during our time in the Bahamas, and the residents here are happy to catch some water to refill their cisterns. It's nice for SENSEI too, since she doesn't get a freshwater bath very often while we conserve water on a mooring.

Dave and Dar

We're enjoying some great music by our friends Dave and Dar today. They're playing a benefit gig at the Hopetown Inn.

The Beach

From our walk this morning. The beaches here are so beautiful and quiet, despite this being the busy season.

Lunch Spot

Lunch at On Da Beach today. Perfect breeze to keep things cool.

Light

The Fresnel lens of the lighthouse concentrates the light from the oil lamp for an unbelievable range of 23 miles. The rotation of the light is driven by gravity, dropping a weight from the top of the tower to turn a gear mechanism. The characteristic is FL (5) 15s 23M.

Sensei and Anodyne

That's Sensei and Anodyne, our friends' boat, in front of Harbor Lights, the former home of Suzan's aunt and uncle.

Hopetown Lighthouse

We toured the lighthouse today. The hurricane stripped off most of the paint, but the people of Hopetown have put in a big effort to restore and repaint everything. It looks great!

Picnic

Not a bad spot for a picnic!

Kodiak

Another pleasant surprise: friends from Annapolis just pulled into our harbor and are moored next to us. It's amazing how many times we cross paths with people we know.

Bingo at Jack’s

One of our new friends, Alan, won the first round of Bingo at Jack's! Congratulations!

Delivery

This is how things get delivered here. Everything comes in by barge and dropped at a dock. Because of all the hurricane damage, there is a lot of construction work going on. It takes time to get things built here.

In the Harbor

We got to see Ramo today!

Good morning, Hopetown

Hopetown Harbor

It's a beautiful day in Hopetown.

Live Music

Live music On Da Beach today!

Hopetown

We found a mooring in Hopetown! We're moored just off of Harbor Lights, the house that used to be owned by Suzan's aunt and uncle. We have spent many enjoyable times in this beautiful place. Looking forward to a few weeks here with the other "Harbor Rats".

Dorian

There are still many battered buildings left from Hurricane Dorian in Marsh Harbor. But, the spirit of the people is strong and they continue the hard work to recover. Many brand new buildings have been completed and the islands are happy to have tourists, so come and help their economy if you can.

Moons

The three moons of Remulak.

Laundry Day

Every few weeks we have to do some laundry. Today we found a fantastic laundry in Marsh Harbor. Clean, and plenty of machines so that we can do everything at once. We really appreciate places like this when we're traveling by boat.

Lynyard Cay

Moonrise at Little Harbor

Lynyard Cay

We left Little Harbor this morning to go to a new anchorage behind Lynyard Cay. Before our departure we watched one of the charter catamarans wrap up their mooring on their prop. We spoke with them to see what their situation was and they told us that the charter company was sending someone to help. Hopefully they are free and underway by now.
