Preparing for Departure

We've had a fine time in Vero over the last two months as we've worked to get the boat ready for the trip north. All of our tasks are complete, at least as complete as necessary to get moving. There are still trips to the grocery store, and probably a trip to West Marine, because, well, it's a boat. We anticipate leaving next week.

Lunch with Friends

We had a great time with Liz, Bobby, Michelle, and Fred out on the water, aboard "Saltwater Gospel". The boat is a center console with shallow draft, so we poked around in the brackish marsh amongst the mangroves for the day. Thanks for a fun time!

Storm Approaching

Suzan's orchids wait for the approaching storm…

Today’s Hike

A bird takes flight as we walk through Pelican National Wildlife Refuge. It was a hot hike and we're happy to have a cool glass of water in our hands back aboard.

Trumpy

The Trumpy "America" in Vero! (Made in Annapolis). It's so great to see these boats out and about.

Treasure!

We took a tour of the Treasure Museum yesterday. Google this guy for an interesting story.

AIS

Our AIS transponder was having trouble picking up boats outside of 0.5 NM. I would expect 10 to 20 miles, so I was suspicious of the antenna connection. Sure enough, the wire to the connector was broken. After I put on a new connector at the masthead, I picked up a cruise ship 44 miles away. I think we're good now.

Visiting

We had a visit from one of the nephews today. It's been remarkable how many friends and family are in Florida or passing through.

Osprey

Our neighbor's mast makes a perch for an osprey, giving him a good spot for reconnaissance.
